And we're off......

On Monday afternoon, Shona and I got a lovely surprise when Andrew, Jane, Mirran and Lila, their black labrador turned up to see us off from Lands' End. (for those who don't know Andrew is Shona's brother, Jane his wife and Mirran is their youngest daughter, I'm sure you've guessed Lila is their dog.

The weather was certainly not at it's best, to be frank, although I've never actually been called Frank, a Michael, Mike, Hamie, or Hams is quite normal, even if I'm not, but never Frank. (I hope you get that joke!). Anyway I digress, again, the weather at land's End was awful, driech, to say the least, and "blowin' a hooley" but we were glad to finally get our boots on the ground despite the weather.

After getting the Tourist Information to stamp our "Transit Verification Form", basically this is a form that is used to verify the mode of transport taken to go from End to End in either direction. We made our way to the finger post as you can see in the photo.

The Team taking the photos were lovely, and because we were raising money for Cancer Research UK, the photos were free.Other charities receive the same.

Photos done and dusted, we set off and Jane joined us as we made our way to St Just, as we did, the wind and the rain never let up and by the time we finished we were soaked but thankful we had completed our first day's walk.

For proof, if it was ever needed I've uploaded the photo of Jane and Shona halfway through the walk.

They look like a couple of "drookit craws" I can't believe they were still smiling. Lila is somewhere in the distance just as wet......

Later that night the storm, according to what Shona said, raged, rocking the van and there was some lighting. I can only take her word for that I never heard a thing, I slept like a log, I was going to say, and woke up in the fire-place, but I won't.

As I mentioned on the Miller Hall Midweek recording, on the Sunday we left to head south, Shona's daily Bible reading was from Exodus Chapter 23 verses 20-26. Verse 20 was very significant and a real blessing for it said: "I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way".

Little did we realise the significance of this verse, on Tuesday we were walking along the coastal path from St Just to Pendeen, the way was extremely wet, very difficult and at some points dangerous.

About the mid-point we reached a fork in the path, I checked the map and took, what I thought to be the correct route, humanly speaking, it wasn't. However, we soon realised we had been led by the angel God had promised would go before us for we reached a "B" road which was far safer and easier underfoot.

All we can say here is we thank God for His guiding hand along the way and give Him all the praise and glory. Since then, we have altered our routes to take us along safe roads and cycle tracks and have made great progress, thankful too that the weather has improved.... for now....!

We would also record our grateful and heartfelt thanks for all the prayers and messages of support.

On Sunday, tomorrow, we are really looking forward to attending Carnhell Green Christian Fellowship, Cambourne.
