The countdown continues.........

As I write this blog, I realise that all too quickly, the start of our challenge looms large on the horizon. It feels a bit like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. (The photo on the right was taken in the tunnel where the Union Canal ends and meets the Falkirk Wheel).

Next Sunday morning, after the church service at Miller Hall, Shona and I will be setting off to make our way to Land's End. Hoping to arrive, at the caravan site we have booked, just before lunch time on Monday. That will be the end of our training tunnel and where our challenge begins in earnest.

There is no doubt we are full of excitement and anticipation, yes it will be a huge adventure, nevertheless we do confess to being not a little nervous. However, we have been very much encouraged by the messages of support. We are also extremely grateful for all the prayers, we know have been said, for our physical well-being and for our safety throughout our journey.

As mentioned in our last blog, the van is away to the vehicle health professionals for its first MOT, all the drivers out there will appreciate our concern that it comes back with a clean bill of health.

Oh yes, I (Mike), received a gift this week of two boxes of Jelly Babies, I can't wait to get them open, I need to ration myself though, which is not easy I find them so more-ish. I'm not selfish with them, honest, I do offer Shona "one", only one mind. She is very understanding and always refuses it, what Shona actually says is "they're not chocolate", fair enough, suits me 😂.

The other thing we experimented with this week, was making a very short video that we have posted on the "Miller Hall Facebook page". On this occasion it was basically me playing a couple of verses of the old gospel hymn: Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power and then speaking to camera giving a short reason for the video.

I will apologise here for the mis-steaks, oops sorry, the mistakes, especially in the music part, they're all mine, which I suppose shows how genuine it is. Funny though I only seem to make them when the camera starts running.

One of the most important reasons though, was to enable me to provide written details on how to actually record and post videos. Previously, the Sunday service at Miller Hall was broadcast live, however, due to something beyond our control we have been recording the service and posting it afterwards.

If you have never tuned in before we would encourage you to login to your own facebook page and type in Miller Hall, our cover photo is the front of the Hall, and watch the recorded service.

What we are also hoping to do on a weekly basis is, via the Miller Hall Facebook page, to provide a video update of where we are and a little of what we have seen as we make our way northwards.

Our desire though first and foremost is something we are encouraged to do in the Book of Proverbs, chapter 3 verse 6 and that is to: "Seek His will in all we do, and He will show us which path to take".

Yes, we have planned the many aspects of the challenge but, we are very much aware, that we must go in the strength of the Lord and, in the words of Psalm 37 verse 2 spring to mind: If we do what the LORD wants, He will make certain each step we take is sure.

  1. Walking through the tunnel before it had lights was scary, halfway through the light from either end was the size of a 2p and I often said to myself, What are you doing? I will be reading your blog while you are away. Susan Pentecost
